Serama
The Serama is the smallest chicken breed in the world, originating in Malaysia within the last 50 years. Developed from crossings of Japanese and Malaysian bantams, it was bred for beauty, confidence, and companionship rather than production. Seramas are instantly recognizable by their upright, regal posture, full chest, and wings carried low, giving them a toy‑like, animated appearance.
Despite their tiny size—roosters often weighing under 1.1 lbs and hens under 0.9 lbs—they come in a wide range of colors, including black, white, chocolate, wheaten, and many patterned varieties. Their temperament is friendly, bold, and people‑oriented, making them excellent pets and popular exhibition birds.
Because of their small stature, Seramas require warm, draft‑free housing and attentive care, especially in colder climates. Their charm, confidence, and ornamental beauty have made them beloved worldwide among hobbyists and poultry enthusiasts.
